Trump Speaks To Putin, ‘Strongly’ Requests To ‘Spare’ Ukrainian Troops Amid Ceasefire Talks

<p>US President Donald Trump spoke to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday and urged the Russian President “to spare” Ukrainian troops.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said he had “very good and productive discussions” with Putin. “There is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end,” he said.&nbsp;</p>
<p>He then caveated to say that thousands of Ukrainian troops are “completely surrounded” by the Russian military, adding that he urged Putin to spare them.&nbsp;</p>
<p>”BUT, AT THIS VERY MOMENT, THOUSANDS OF UKRAINIAN TROOPS ARE COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY THE RUSSIAN MILITARY, AND IN A VERY BAD AND VULNERABLE POSITION. I have strongly requested to President Putin that their lives be spared,” said the US President.&nbsp;</p>
<p>”This would be a horrible massacre, one not seen since World War II. God bless them all!!!” he added.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Putin Says ‘In Favour’ Of Ceasefire Proposal&nbsp;</h2>
<p>On Thursday, Putin said he was “in favour” of the ceasefire with Ukraine proposed by the US. He, however, said there are “nuances” and that the truce must lead to “long -term peace.”&nbsp;</p>
<p>He made the remarks during a press conference where he specifically asked about the ceasefire to which he responded by thanking Trump for dedicating his attention to the issue.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&ldquo;We agree with the proposal for a ceasefire to cease hostilities, but we proceed from the fact that this ceasefire should lead to an enduring peace and should remove the root causes of this crisis,&rdquo; he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Russian President, although, raised more questions that entirely agree with the ceasefire.&nbsp;</p>
<p>He claimed that the ceasefire could give Ukraine a chance to rearm and regain momentum.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Putin said “the idea is good” and “we absolutely support it”, but he also said there were issues that need to be discussed.&nbsp;</p>
<p>” I think we need to negotiate with our American colleagues and partners, maybe a phone call with President Trump, but the very idea of ending this conflict by peaceful means we support that,” the Russian President remarked.&nbsp;</p>
