PM Modi’s Plane Was In Pakistan’s Airspace For 46 Minutes During Flight To Paris: Report

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi left Delhi on a four-day visit to France and the US on Monday. During his three-day visit to France, PM Modi addressed the AI Action Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron, inaugurated India’s new consulate in Marseilles and held bilateral talks with global leaders.&nbsp;</p>
<p>From France, PM Modi will travel to the US on the second leg of his two-nation tour on Wednesday. The PM will hold a bilateral meeting with President Donald Trump.&nbsp;Modi embarked on a visit to Paris on Monday at around 1 pm and reached Paris in the evening. &nbsp;</p>

<p>PM Modi’s flight flew for around an hour in Pakistani airspace on its way to Paris, a report in ARY News said. His flight entered the Pakistani airspace near Lahore and continued at an altitude of 34,000 feet, passing over several Pakistani cities, including Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Chakwal and Kohat. The aircraft remained in the Pakistani airspace for around 46 minutes.</p>

<p>The aircraft took the route through Pakistan as the Afghan airspace was closed for air traffic.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi has previously travelled through Pakistani airspace during official visits.</p>
<p>In August last year, the PM’s plane used Pakistani airspace while travelling from Poland to Delhi. PM Modi’s plane stayed in Pakistani airspace for 46 minutes while returning to Delhi from his Poland visit.</p>
<p>Pakistan had completely shut its airspace to India from February 26, 2019. Islamabad also rejected a request from PM Modi to use Pakistani airspace for a trip to Germany in the same year.</p>
<p>Modi, who will be on a US tour from Wednesday, would be among the first few world leaders to visit the US following the January 20 inauguration after Trump’s victory in the US elections last November.</p>
<p>The prime minister’s visit to the US at the invitation of President Trump shows the importance of India-US partnership and is also reflective of the bipartisan support that this partnership enjoys in the US, Foreign Secretary said Vikram Misri said here in a briefing on February 7.</p>
<p>PM Modi will also interact with business leaders and members of the Indian community in the US. PM Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with President Trump in both restricted and delegation-level formats. A range of bilateral issues are expected to be on the table besides, besides discussions on regional and international situation.</p>
