Delhi Election Results 2025 LIVE Updates: The people of Delhi have freed the Capital of a decade of “AAP-da (disaster)” by giving its mandate to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday, as the saffron party returned to power in the Union Territory after 27 years. The “people’s mandate to the BJP is for development, vision and trust,” he told BJP workers at the party headquarters.
In the fiercely-fought Delhi assembly elections, the BJP outmatched Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as it secured 48 out of 70 seats. The AAP’s crushing loss – it secured only 22 seats – was underlined by the defeat of its top leaders, including national convener and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his former deputy Manish Sisodia. The Congress has maintained its record of the past two elections in the Capital, failing to win a single seat in the assembly.
Parvesh Sahib Singh, who defeated Mr Kejriwal, has emerged as one of the BJP’s top faces in line for chief ministership. While Chief Minister Atishi has won from Kalkaji constituency, former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia conceded defeat in Jangpura.
Most exit polls had predicted a victory for the BJP and its allies in the Capital. A turnout of 60.54% was recorded in the single-phase February 5 elections.
