Donald Trump, the oldest individual ever elected as President of the United States, has been declared “fully fit” to serve as commander-in-chief, according to a recent health report released by the White House. The statement came following a comprehensive physical examination conducted last Friday, with Trump’s physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, noting that the president’s “active lifestyle” continues to contribute “significantly” to his well-being.

The 78-year-old Republican leader, who turns 79 on June 14, has lost 20 pounds since his 2020 presidential check-up, bringing his weight down to 224 pounds from 244. His doctor’s three-page summary affirmed Trump is “fully fit to execute the duties of Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”

According to the summary, Trump underwent cataract surgery on both eyes, though no specific dates were provided. The exam also revealed that Trump had a colonoscopy in July 2024, during which a benign polyp and a condition known as diverticulosis were found. Diverticulosis, a common age-related condition, involves the weakening of intestinal walls and may lead to inflammation, though most individuals remain asymptomatic.

As per Capt. Barbabella’s report, Trump also took the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) again — a screening test used to evaluate different brain functions. The exam includes tasks such as remembering spoken words and repeating random numbers in reverse order. This is the same test Trump famously took in 2018, during which he publicly recited, “Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV.”

The president also underwent screenings for depression and anxiety, with both tests returning normal results, according to the report.

While Trump remains the oldest person elected to the office, he is still four years younger than his Democratic rival Joe Biden, who concluded his term at the age of 82 in January.

Barbabella stated that Trump is in “excellent health” with “robust” cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and general physical function. The doctor highlighted Trump’s daily routine, which includes “multiple meetings, public appearances, media availabilities and frequent victories in golf events.” Trump, an avid golfer, recently claimed to have won tournaments hosted at his own clubs in Florida.

The report also detailed a steady improvement in Trump’s cholesterol levels, attributed to the medications rosuvastatin and ezetimibe. His total cholesterol dropped from 223 in 2018 to 140 in the latest report. For reference, a total cholesterol level below 200 is considered ideal.

Trump’s blood pressure was recorded at 128/74, a reading that is considered elevated and could lead to hypertension if not managed properly, news agency AP reported. His resting heart rate stood at 62 beats per minute, which falls within the normal adult range of 60 to 100 bpm, with a lower rate generally indicating better cardiovascular fitness. He also takes aspirin to help reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

The exam further noted minor sun damage to Trump’s skin and a few benign lesions but no concerning growths. It confirmed scarring on his right ear from a gunshot wound sustained during an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024.

Who Is Trump’s Physician Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella?

Barbabella, a decorated Navy physician with specialisations in emergency and tactical medicine, supervised the examination. It included diagnostic and laboratory testing, along with consultations with 14 specialists. He has previously served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, and holds a Purple Heart and a Legion of Merit — among the US military’s highest honours, as per AP.

Barbabella is the third consecutive osteopathic physician to serve as doctor to the president, following in the footsteps of President Biden’s physician and one of Trump’s previous doctors. Before his current appointment, Barbabella ran a naval health clinic in Havelock, North Carolina.
