Trump Address To Congress: With US President Donald Trump set to address the Congress Tuesday night (Wednesday, 7.30 am in India), Americans and the world are waiting with bated breath to see how it pans out. Trump shared a cryptic all-caps post on social media ahead of his first joint session of Congress after becoming the president: “Tomorrow night will be big. I will tell it like it is.”

Although not an official State of the Union address — an annual speech delivered at the start of the year where the president discusses the nation’s status and outlines future goals — Trump’s first speech to Congress in this term is widely viewed as a significant opportunity for him to highlight his key priorities.

CNN reported that his speech is expected to be an extension of the around 45 days of his “whiplash-inducing” new term. “He will also face his biggest audience yet to spell out demands for Republicans to turn his agenda into law, the outcome of which will ultimately shape the success of his presidency,” the report said.

Trump needs to secure funding from lawmakers to keep the government running, and avoid a shutdown when funds expire on March 14.
Meanwhile, a <a title=”new CNN poll” href=”https://ssrs.com/news/public-remains-negative-on-trump-ahead-of-address-to-congress” target=”_self”>new CNN poll conducted by research firm SSRS shows that public opinion on Donald Trump’s presidency remains more negative than positive ahead of his first formal address to Congress.

Overall 52% Disapprove Of Trump’s Job Performance: CNN Poll

According to the CNN poll, overall 52% disapprove of Trump’s job performance, while 48% approve. His support remains strong among Republicans (90% approval) and weak among Democrats (90% disapproval), while independents lean negative, with 59% disapproving and 41% approving.

More Americans believe Trump’s policies are leading the country in the wrong direction (45%) rather than the right one (39%), and a majority (52%) say he has not focused enough on the country’s most pressing problems. Disapproval is particularly high among younger adults, people of colour, and women, while Trump enjoys strong support from White voters without college degrees.

The poll also suggests skepticism about Trump’s policy priorities, with even some of his supporters questioning whether he is addressing the most important issues. However, a notable portion of independents and people of colour remain undecided on the impact of his proposals.

The survey, conducted from February 24-28 among 2,212 US adults, has a margin of error of ±2.4 percentage points.
