The interim government in Bangladesh has accused ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina of triggering the demolition at Dhanmondi-32, condemning the act as “unexpected and undesirable”.

In a statement, the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing said, “The inflammatory statements made by fugitive Sheikh Hasina from India against the July uprising have created deep anger among the people, which has manifested in this incident.”

The statement further said the incident centred around two aspects first being Sheikh Hasina “insulting and dishonouring” martyrs of the July uprising, reported The Daily Star.

Secondly, the CA accused Hasina of speaking in the “same threatening tone as she did while holding on to power.”

”By making irrelevant, absurd, and hateful remarks about the martyrs of mass uprising, fugitive Sheikh Hasina has shown disregard and disrespect to the July uprising,” the statement said.

The demolition of the house on Road 32 was a reaction to Hasina’s violent behaviour, it added.

The Chief Adviser said that such incidents can be avoided in future if Hasina, accused of crimes against humanity refrains from making statements.

”The government expects that India will not allow its territory to be used for activities that create instability in Bangladesh and will not give scope to Sheikh Hasina to speak. The interim government does not want a recurrence of such incidents in the future,” it added.

Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a Facebook post that it has lodged a “strong protest with the Government of India” over Hasina’s statement.

”The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh lodged a strong protest with the Government of India over the false and fabricated comments and statements continuously being made in different platforms including social media, by the former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, instigating instability in Bangladesh,” read the Facebook post.

”Through the protest note, handed over to the Acting High Commissioner of India in Dhaka, the Ministry conveyed the deep concern, disappointment and serious reservation of the Government of Bangladesh, as such statements are hurting the sentiments of the people in Bangladesh,” it added.
