‘Dragon-Elephant Tango’: Xi Jinping, Droupadi Murmu Exchange Greetings On 75 Years Of India-China Ties

<p>Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Droupadi Murmu exchanged congratulatory messages on Tuesday to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.&nbsp;Xi highlighted the significance of the relationship, noting that China and India&mdash;both ancient civilisations and major developing nations&mdash;are at a crucial stage of their respective modernisation efforts.</p>
<p>According to China&rsquo;s state-run Xinhua news agency, he emphasised that strengthening ties between the two countries serves their fundamental interests and described the partnership as the &ldquo;Dragon-Elephant Tango.&rdquo;</p>
<p>Xi urged both sides to approach bilateral relations with a strategic and long-term perspective, advocating peaceful coexistence, mutual trust, and common development. &ldquo;Both countries should work together to promote a multi-polar world and greater democracy in international relations,&rdquo; he said.</p>
<p>Xi also expressed his willingness to collaborate with Murmu to deepen strategic mutual trust, enhance cooperation across various sectors, and ensure peace and stability in the border region. &ldquo;We should take this anniversary as an opportunity to push forward the sound and steady development of bilateral relations and contribute to world peace and prosperity,&rdquo; he added.</p>

<p>In her message, Murmu highlighted that India and China, as two major neighbouring nations home to one-third of the global population, must prioritise a stable and friendly relationship. She proposed using the milestone anniversary to further strengthen bilateral ties.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also exchanged congratulatory messages on the occasion.</p>
<p>PM Modi underscored the historical and global significance of India-China relations, remarking, &ldquo;As two ancient civilisations, we have played an important role in shaping human history and now bear the responsibility of promoting peace and development.&rdquo; He added that strengthening ties would not only contribute to global stability and prosperity but also support the emergence of a multi-polar world. &ldquo;The 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations presents an opportunity for a period of healthy and stable development in India-China bilateral ties,&rdquo; Modi noted.</p>
