Israel Launches First Attack On Beirut Since Ceasefire, Macron Condemns Strikes As ‘Unacceptable’

<p data-pm-slice=”0 0 []”>Israel launched an attack on Beirut, the Lebanese capital, on Friday. The attack is the first since a ceasefire ended fighting between the Israeli forces and Hezbollah in November.

According to Associated Press, the reporters of AP heard a large boom and witnessed smoke rising from the area that Israel’s military had vowed to strike. On Friday, the Israeli army warned urgently to evacuate parts of a Beirut suburb and vowed to retaliate against the strikes, which are said to have been launched from Lebanon into northern Israel.

According to AP, the defense minister of Israel said on Friday that if there was no peace in Israel’s northern communities, there would be no peace in Beirut either. Hezbollah denied firing the rockets at northern Israel and also accused Israel of seeking a pretext to continue attacking Lebanon.

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned it on Friday and called it “unacceptable strikes on Beirut” after Israel launched an attack on the Lebanese capital. Speaking at a joint press conference alongside Lebanon president Joseph Aoun, Macron said the renewed tensions “mark a turning point.”

“Today’s strikes and the failure to respect the ceasefire are unilateral actions that betray a given promise and play into Hezbollah’s hands,” he said as quoted by AP.

He also said that France will continue to be at Lebanon’s side to help it preserve its sovereignty and guarantee its security.

“This is what we want to do alongside you in the south. This is also what we want to do on the border with Syria, where the situation is also extremely delicate,” Macron said.
