<p>UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in a significant gesture of mercy during the holy month of Ramadan, has ordered the release of 1,295 inmates, including nearly 500 Indians, from correctional facilities across the UAE. He also pledged to settle any financial obligations incurred as part of their sentences.</p>
<p>This annual initiative of granting pardons in Ramadan are part of UAE’s tradition which showcases its commitment to grant inmates an opportunity to make a fresh start. Aligning with the holy month, it aims at easing the hardships faced by the inmates’ families, promoting stability within their households and the wider community, and encouraging forgiveness and compassion, Emirates News Agency WAM reported.</p>

<p>Implemented in late February, the decision saw President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan order the release of 1,295 inmates, while Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum granted clemency to 1,518 prisoners, news agency ANI reported.</p>
<p>Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s clemency extends to individuals of various nationalities held in Dubai’s correctional and punitive facilities. The pardon aims to reunite them with their families and support their reintegration into society.</p>
<p>Attorney General of Dubai, Chancellor Essam Issa Al-Humaidan, said that the decision shows Sheikh Mohammed’s commitment to providing a fresh start for those who have served their sentences. He confirmed that Dubai Public Prosecution, along with Dubai Police, has already started the legal procedures for their release.</p>
<p>The mass release also serves as the practical role in reducing the prison population in UAE while reinforcing social stability.</p>
