Fact Check: Donald Trump’s Truth Social Post About ‘Annexing Alaska’ Is Fabricated, Of Course

<h2 id=”isPasted”><strong>What is the claim?</strong></h2>
<p>Social media posts containing the claim that U.S. President Donald Trump said on his Truth Social account that he would annex Greenland and Alaska are going viral.</p>
<p>The viral screenshot reads, “After I’ve annexed Greenland and making it the 52nd State, I will annexe Alaska. The people of Alaska don’t want to be part of a backward nation in Canada. I will make all Alaskan’s rich and prosperous when they become the 53rd State of our mighty country. Nobody in Greenland or Alaska would ever have dreamed of this under Crooked Joe Biden.”</p>
<p>This viral screenshot has surfaced on multiple social media platforms, including X, Threads, Facebook, Instagram, and Bluesky.&nbsp;</p>
<p>At the time of writing this story, a post like this on X had amassed over 134,000 views and more than 3,300 likes. <p>However, we found that the viral screenshot was fake, and Trump did not post any such remarks on Truth Social.</p>
<h3><strong>What are the facts?</strong></h3>
<p>We checked Trump’s official Truth Social <a href=”https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump”>account</a> (archived <a href=”https://ghostarchive.org/archive/PRYe0″ target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>here</a>) and found no post indicating any reference to annexing Greenland and Alaska as the 52nd and 53rd states of the U.S.&nbsp;</p>
<p>We then checked Trump’s Truth, a website that archives all his posts and did not find any <a title=”such post” href=”https://trumpstruth.org/search?query=Alaska+Annexe&amp;start_date=&amp;end_date=&amp;sort=relevance&amp;per_page=25″ target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener”>such post</a> (archived <a title=”here” href=”https://archive.is/IG8Eh” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener”>here</a>). We also checked Trump’s X <a title=”account” href=”https://x.com/search?q=from%3ArealDonaldTrump%20Alaska%20Annexe&amp;src=typed_query” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener”>account</a> and found no statement about annexing Alaska (archived <a title=”here” href=”https://perma.cc/V7EB-RAZ2″ target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener”>here</a>).&nbsp;</p>
<p>We also searched Google but found no reports of President Trump making such a statement. If such a statement had been made, especially referring to Greenland and Alaska together, it would have been covered by multiple news outlets.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Moreover, Trump has not made a statement about annexing Alaska; it is already a state in the United States. <a title=”The White House referred to it” href=”https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/unleashing-alaskas-extraordinary-resource-potential/” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener”>The White House referred to it</a> in a January 20, 2025 press release.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Additionally, the U.S. currently has <a title=”50 states” href=”https://uk.usembassy.gov/states-of-the-union-states-of-the-u-s/” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener”>50 states</a>, Alaska being the 49th to join the union in 1959. Therefore, if Trump were to genuinely annex Greenland, it would be the 51st state, not the 52nd, as the post appears to claim.</p>
<p>Further, we noticed several grammatical errors throughout the purported post, indicating it may not be legitimate.</p>
<p>Since becoming President, Trump has repeatedly reiterated <a title=”his wish” href=”https://edition.cnn.com/2025/01/07/politics/trump-news-conference-key-lines/index.html” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener”>his wish</a> for the U.S. to take over Greenland, an <a title=”autonomous” href=”https://denmark.dk/people-and-culture/greenland” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener”>autonomous</a> territory in the Kingdom of Denmark.&nbsp;</p>
<h3><strong>The verdict</strong></h3>
<p>A fake image is being shared in social media posts alongside claims that it shows a Truth Social post by U.S. President Donald Trump stating that he would annex Greenland and Alaska. No such post exists on Trump’s Truth Social account or any of his other social media accounts.</p>
