President Trump To Address Joint Congress Session — What To Expect & Where To Watch Live

<p>US President Donald Trump will address a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, his first speech since returning to the White House on January 20.</p>
<p>Trump will address Congress at a time when Republicans hold a majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. &nbsp;However, the event will not be technically a State of the Union address.</p>
<p>The event comes just ahead of a key federal funding deadline on March 14, at which point the federal government will run out of money. Trump has called for the GOP-led Congress to adopt a stopgap funding measure to keep the government open, which could be his leading legislative request Tuesday night, according to ABC News.</p>
<h2>What To Expect From Trump Address?</h2>
<p>Trump is likely to double down on his administration’s government restructuring initiative, known as the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which Trump has turned to billionaire Elon Musk to lead.</p>
<p>According to NPR, Trump is expected to talk about his plans for reducing illegal immigration. Days after taking office, he suspended the asylum process at the southern border as well as refugee resettlement. He also moved to end birthright citizenship for children born in the US to parents without legal status, however, that effort has since been blocked by two federal judges.</p>
<p>Another focus could be on the tariffs. Earlier, the US President has already imposed a 10% tariff on Chinese goods and has vowed to impose steep tariffs on Mexico and Canada. Trump has also signed an executive order expanding steel and aluminum tariffs and another aimed at imposing ‘reciprocal tariffs’ on US trading partners.</p>
<p>Focus could also be on about ending the war between Israel and Hamas. The US’ role in reaching to a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine could also be one of the points of the speech, after last week’s Oval Office meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.</p>
<p>In the Middle East, Trump has said he wants the US to take ownership of the Gaza Strip and redevelop the territory &mdash; in what would be a drastic and unprecedented shift in US relations in the region.</p>
