Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to retaliate against Yemen’s Houthi rebels after a missile fired by the Iran-backed group struck near Israel’s main international airport, injuring six people. According to Israeli authorities, the missile landed close to Terminal 3’s parking area at Ben Gurion Airport on Sunday morning, prompting temporary flight suspensions and sirens across several parts of the country. Although the airport has since reopened, major airlines including Lufthansa, Air France, and Delta cancelled flights to and from the location for the day.

In a video statement posted on social media, Netanyahu declared, “We attacked in the past, we will attack in the future.” “We have acted against them in the past and we will act in the future, but I cannot go into detail … it will not happen in one bang, but there will be many bangs,” Netanyahu said in a video, as quoted by The Guardian.

In another post, he wrote, “President Trump is absolutely right! Attacks by the Houthis emanate from Iran. Israel will respond to the Houthi attack against our main airport AND, at a time and place of our choosing, to their Iranian terror masters.”

The Israeli Prime Minister shared US President Donald Trump’s March post slamming Iran for Houthi attacks: “Let nobody be fooled! The hundreds of attacks being made by Houthi, the sinister mobsters and thugs based in Yemen, who are hated by the Yemeni people, all emanate from, and are created by, IRAN. Any further attack or retaliation by the “Houthis” will be met with great force, and there is no guarantee that that force will stop there. Iran has played “the innocent victim” of rogue terrorists from which they’ve lost control, but they haven’t lost control.”

”They’re dictating every move, giving them the weapons, supplying them with money and highly sophisticated Military equipment, and even, so-called, “Intelligence.” Every shot fired by the Houthis will be looked upon, from this point forward, as being a shot fired from the weapons and leadership of IRAN, and IRAN will be held responsible, and suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be dire!” he wrote.

According to BBC, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz also warned earlier, “Anyone who hits us, we will hit them seven times stronger.”

The Houthi rebels, who have consistently expressed solidarity with Hamas amid the conflict in Gaza, claimed responsibility for the attack. In a televised address, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said, “The Israeli airport is no longer safe for air travel.”

Israeli media, citing emergency services, reported that four individuals sustained injuries directly from the blast, while two others were hurt while seeking shelter.

Footage circulating on social media appeared to show motorists pulling over and taking cover as a projectile struck nearby, producing a thick plume of black smoke near the airport, located on the outskirts of Tel Aviv.

Senior Israeli police commander Yair Hetzroni, speaking to journalists at the scene, pointed to a large crater caused by the missile. “You can see the scene right behind us here, a hole that opened up with a diameter of tens of metres and also tens of metres deep,” he said, noting that there was no significant damage despite the impact.

The Israeli Air Force is currently investigating why the missile was not intercepted by the country’s sophisticated air defence system.

Netanyahu is expected to meet with ministers and defence officials later on Sunday to discuss a response, according to reports from local media.

The Houthis, who have also carried out attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea, continue to face aerial bombardments by the United States, with support from the United Kingdom.
