Shehbaz Sharif Admits BrahMos Hit Airbases Before Pakistani Attack: ‘Our Forces Were Prepared, But…’

<p>Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has publicly admitted that the Pakistani army was caught unaware on the intervening night of May 9-10 when India launched BrahMos missiles during Operation Sindoor.</p>
<p>Shehbaz Sharif, who was on a visit to Azerbaijan, said the army, led by Asim Munir, had planned to attack India on May 10 after the morning prayers. &nbsp;</p>
<p>The Prime Minister’s acknowledgement of the Indian military response came in front of Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir.</p>
<p>However, he said that India’s long-range supersonic BrahMos cruise missiles rained down on various provinces of Pakistan even before dawn.</p>
<p>The Pakistani PM further said he was informed of the early morning attack by Munir, who has now been promoted to the rank of Field Marshal.</p>

<p>”On the night of May 9-10, we decided to respond in a measured fashion to Indian aggression. Our armed forces were prepared to act at 4.30 in the morning after Fajr prayers to teach a lesson to our enemy. But before that hour even arrived, India again launched a missile attack using BrahMos and targetted various provinces of Pakistan, including the airport in Rawalpindi and other places,” Sharif said while speaking at the Pakistan-Turkey-Azerbaijan trilateral summit in Azerbaijan&rsquo;s Lachin.</p>
<p>The PM said that the Pakistani military had planned to attack India on May 10 at 4:30 am. However, before dawn, India preemptively attacked military installations with BrahMos missiles.</p>
<p>Shehbaz Sharif said that India destroyed Noor Khan base in Rawalpindi and Murid in Chakwal before the Pakistan’s planned attack.</p>
<p>The Nur Khan airbase in Rawalpindi was among the 11 military sites targeted by India in response to the Pakistani drone and missile attacks earlier this month.&nbsp;</p>
<p>India launched ‘<a title=”Operation Sindoor” href=”https://news.abplive.com/topic/operation-sindoor” data-type=”interlinkingkeywords”>Operation Sindoor</a>’ on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. The operation involved precision strikes on terror infrastructure across the border in Pakistan.</p>
