Russia Imposes Partial Restrictions on WhatsApp, Telegram Voice Calls

Russia, through its media and internet regulator, Roskomnadzor, has reportedly imposed a partial restriction on voice calls made via two instant messaging apps, WhatsApp and Telegram. The regulator said that it took this step to better fight crime. Moreover, the regulator said that several law enforcement agencies and citizens appealed that the two instant messaging services had become the primary calling service for deception and extortion.
