OpenAI has banned several accounts, potentially linked to China, that attempted to use ChatGPT for mass surveillance, social media monitoring, and profiling. Some accounts also sought assistance in developing tools targeting Uyghurs and other sensitive topics. OpenAI confirmed no such tools were actually built, and accounts from Russia attempting phishing-related uses were also blocked.
