Indian-Origin Man Dies In Australia After Police Kneel On His Neck During Arrest Attempt: Here’s What Went Down

<p data-start=”183″ data-end=”514″>A 42-year-old Indian-origin man, Gaurav Kundi, has died in Australia after reportedly sustaining critical injuries when a police officer allegedly pressed his knee against the man&rsquo;s neck during an arrest. The incident, which took place in Adelaide, has sparked public outcry and prompted an official inquiry into police procedures.</p>
<h3 data-start=”516″ data-end=”568″><span style=”color: #ba372a;”><strong>Confrontation Captured on Video, Wife Cries Foul</strong></span></h3>
<p data-start=”570″ data-end=”740″>According to a report by 7News Australia, as cited by PTI, Kundi was admitted to the hospital with head injuries and died on Thursday. He was a resident of Modbury North in Adelaide.</p>
<p data-start=”742″ data-end=”1063″>The altercation occurred on Penham Road in Royston Park when a police officer approached Kundi, claiming to have witnessed a “dispute” between him and a woman, later identified as his wife, Amritpal Kaur. A video from the scene shows the officer forcefully handling Kundi, as both he and Kaur vocally resisted the action.</p>
<p data-start=”1065″ data-end=”1234″>”I have done nothing wrong,” Kundi is heard shouting in the video, while Kaur, who was recording the incident, can be heard accusing the police of using excessive force.</p>
<p data-start=”1236″ data-end=”1369″>Kundi lost consciousness during the arrest attempt and was immediately taken to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.</p>
<h3 data-start=”1371″ data-end=”1423″><span style=”color: #ba372a;”><strong>Police Claim He Resisted Arrest, Was Intoxicated</strong></span></h3>
<p data-start=”1425″ data-end=”1688″>The South Australian Police stated that Kundi appeared to be intoxicated and resisted arrest, engaging in physical struggle with the officer. Police claimed that a patrol unit had observed what they interpreted as a domestic violence situation between the couple.</p>
<p data-start=”1690″ data-end=”1814″>However, Kaur has refuted these claims, saying, &ldquo;My husband was only drunk and making noise. He was not violent in any way.&rdquo;</p>
<p data-start=”1816″ data-end=”1955″>No firearm or Taser was used during the incident, police confirmed. They also stated that no electrical stun device was found at the scene.</p>
<h3 data-start=”1957″ data-end=”2010″><span style=”color: #ba372a;”><strong>South Australia Police Commissioner Orders Review</strong></span></h3>
<p data-start=”2012″ data-end=”2309″>South Australia Police Commissioner Grant Stevens told ABC Radio Adelaide that an internal affairs investigation is underway. In addition to this, he assured that a broader review of police procedures and training protocols&mdash;especially those governing use of force during arrests&mdash;will be conducted.</p>
