Amid escalating tensions following a massive US strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, a British Airways flight scheduled from Hyderabad to London was left grounded at Shamshabad airport on Sunday.

The aircraft, which was fully boarded and ready for departure, remained stranded on the runway for nearly two hours as staff awaited necessary flight permissions that had not yet been granted due to the rapidly evolving situation, airspace restrictions and uncertainty.

Airline staff mentioned that permission to proceed was still pending in light of the military operations unfolding in the region.

Trump Hails ‘Spectacular Military Success’ After US Bombs Iran’s Nuclear Sites

The delay occurred just hours after US President Donald Trump addressed the nation, describing the recent strikes on Iran as a “spectacular military success.” During his televised statement, Trump revealed that the US military had executed “massive precision strike” operations targeting three major Iranian nuclear facilities — Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

“Everybody heard those names as they built this horribly destructive enterprise,” Trump stated, emphasising that the objective of the attack was to dismantle Iran’s nuclear enrichment capabilities and neutralise what he called “the number one state sponsor of terror.” While Tehran has consistently maintained that its nuclear programme serves peaceful purposes, the US administration has accused Iran of escalating global instability.

“The strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated,” Trump declared, standing alongside Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.

A Stern Warning to Iran: ‘Peace or Tragedy'

In his address, Trump labelled Iran as “the bully of the Middle East” and demanded that Tehran pursue peace. “Iran must now make peace,” he warned, adding that if they fail to do so, “future attacks will be far greater and a lot easier.” He referred to Iran’s longstanding hostility towards the US and Israel, saying, “For 40 years, Iran has been saying ‘death to America’, ‘death to Israel’. They have been killing our people, blowing off their arms…legs with roadside bombs. That was their speciality.”

The US president also recalled the 2020 drone strike that killed General Qassam Soleimani, blaming Iran for thousands of deaths both regionally and globally due to what he described as the regime’s “hate.” Expressing gratitude to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump highlighted the close coordination between Washington and Tel Aviv. “We worked as a team, perhaps no team has ever worked before,” he remarked.

Concluding his remarks with a stark ultimatum, Trump said, “There will be either peace or tragedy for Iran far greater than we have witnessed in the last eight days.” He warned that while the current strike targeted Iran’s most dangerous nuclear sites, “there are many targets left,” suggesting that further military action remains on the table if Tehran refuses to back down.

The unfolding geopolitical crisis continues to disrupt international travel, raising fresh concerns over the safety of air routes amid the escalating conflict.
