Meta Platforms on Friday announced a new security measure for keeping WhatsApp chat backups safe by encrypting them with passkeys. With passkey-encrypted chat backups, users will not be required to memorise a password or a 64-digit encryption key anymore. Instead, they can utilise the handset’s buil-in security methods, such as fingerprints or facial recognition, or even a simple screen lock code to encrypt the backup and add extra security.
