Trump Warns ‘BRICS Will End Very Quickly’ As He Threatens 10% Tariff On Member Nations

by aweeincm

In a fiery warning, President Donald Trump renewed his call for tariffs on BRICS nations and dismissed the group’s growing influence on the global stage.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday reignited tensions with the BRICS bloc, declaring that the coalition “will end very quickly” if it ever solidifies into a meaningful alliance. He also repeated his threat to impose a 10% tariff on imports from BRICS countries, criticizing the group’s direction and accusing it of harboring “anti-American policies.”

“When I heard about this group from BRICS, six countries, basically, I hit them very, very hard. And if they ever really form in a meaningful way, it will end very quickly,” Trump said, without identifying any countries by name. “We can never let anyone play games with us.”

Trump also emphasized his commitment to maintaining the U.S. dollar’s role as the world’s dominant reserve currency, firmly stating that he would never allow the creation of a central bank digital currency in the United States.

The proposed tariffs, first announced on July 6, target countries Trump believes are aligning with the BRICS group—a coalition initially made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The bloc recently expanded to include nations like Iran and Indonesia, and it continues to present itself as a platform for economic cooperation among emerging economies.

As global institutions like the G7 and G20 face internal discord, BRICS has gained traction as an alternative space for multilateral dialogue. But Trump has repeatedly—though without evidence—claimed the group exists to undermine the United States and the dollar’s global supremacy.

BRICS leaders have rejected those accusations, stressing that the alliance is not anti-American but focused on promoting fairer international systems. While Brazil recently dropped plans to push for a unified BRICS currency, the group is moving forward with “BRICS Pay”—a cross-border payment system designed to support transactions in local currencies.

Tensions between Trump and BRICS members have grown more pointed in recent months. Trump has announced a steep 50% tariff on Brazilian imports set to take effect in August and launched an investigation into what U.S. officials described as Brazil’s “unfair” trade practices.
