In a fiery message posted Sunday on his social media platform Truth Social, former U.S. President Donald Trump issued a sharp warning to countries aligning with BRICS, declaring they would face steep economic consequences.

”Any country aligning themselves with the anti-American policies of BRICS will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% Tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy,” Trump wrote, signing off with a curt, “Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

The post signals a renewed hardline stance on global trade partnerships and foreign alliances, as Trump continues to position himself as a staunch defender of American economic interests on the international stage.

While Trump did not elaborate on what he meant by “anti-American policies,” the message was clear: nations siding with the increasingly influential BRICS bloc—comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—could face new economic barriers if he returns to power.

In a follow-up post, Trump added that official U.S. tariff communications—referred to as “TARIFF Letters, and/or Deals”—would begin rolling out at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, July 7th. He did not specify which countries would receive these letters or what terms they might include.

India-U.S. Trade Talks in Final Stretch Amid Tariff Deadline

According to sources familiar with the matter, ongoing negotiations between India and the United States are inching toward an interim trade agreement, with both sides aiming to reach a deal before the fast-approaching deadline. However, no official confirmation has been made public yet.

The urgency follows Trump’s earlier move to impose sweeping tariffs—announced on April 2 under his “Liberation Day” campaign. India was among the nations hit with a proposed 26% duty on several key exports. Labeling New Delhi the “tariff king,” Trump accused India of engaging in unfair trade practices.

Although the tariffs were temporarily suspended for 90 days, that grace period is now drawing to a close, adding pressure on both governments to finalize terms before punitive measures kick in.
