The ongoing rivalry between former President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk has flared up once again, with Musk launching a scathing attack on the Senate’s latest draft of Trump’s sweeping tax-and-spending legislation.

As debate over the nearly 1,000-page proposal prepares to kick off in the Senate, Musk’s fiery comments have reignited tensions and drawn widespread attention to the bill’s potential implications.

Musk Warns of Job Losses and Strategic Damage

On Saturday, Elon Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to deliver a blistering critique of the Senate’s revised 940-page version of Trump’s signature domestic policy bill.

”The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country!”

”Utterly insane and destructive. It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future.”

Musk’s remarks came just as Senate Republicans prepare to push the legislation forward, racing against Trump’s July 4 deadline for final passage.

Musk’s Ongoing Criticism of the Legislation

This is not the first time Musk has expressed strong opposition to the bill. Earlier this month, he publicly blasted the House version, calling it: “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

Though Musk had recently signaled attempts to mend his relationship with Trump after stepping down from his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), his latest series of posts suggest those efforts have stalled.

Energy Provisions Under Fire

Musk also amplified criticisms of the bill’s energy policy, highlighting concerns raised by Jesse Jenkins, an energy systems engineer at Princeton.

Jenkins wrote: “The energy provisions in the Republicans’ One Big Horrible Bill are truly so bad! Who wants this? The country’s automakers don’t want it. Electric utilities don’t want it. Data center developers don’t want it. Manufacturers in energy intensive industries don’t want it.”

Musk responded succinctly: “Good question. Who?”

Debt Ceiling Hike Sparks Alarm

Musk also took aim at the bill’s impact on national debt, writing: “At the same time, this bill raises the debt ceiling by $5 TRILLION, the biggest increase in history, putting America in the fast lane to debt slavery!”

His remarks have only intensified pressure on Republican lawmakers who are already struggling to unify around the massive legislation.

Inside Trump’s Controversial $940 Billion Plan

The legislation combines sweeping tax cuts and defense spending with deep reductions in social programs such as Medicaid and food stamps. A major pillar of the bill is Trump’s $350 billion border and immigration enforcement plan. This includes:

$46 billion for expanding the border wall

$45 billion for 100,000 new migrant detention beds

10,000 new ICE officers, each offered a $10,000 signing bonus

This plan is central to Trump’s promise to implement the largest mass deportation initiative in U.S. history, aiming to remove nearly one million individuals per year.
