Pak Deputy PM Admits Seeking Ceasefire After India Struck Nur Khan, Shorkot Air Bases During Op Sindoor — Video

<p data-pm-slice=”1 1 []”>Ishaq Dar, the Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, said that the country was compelled to request a ceasefire with India last month after the latter struck two of its air bases in Rawalpindi and in the Punjab province as part of Operation Sindoor. The operation by India was conducted by India responding to the terror attack in Jammu-Kashmir&rsquo;s Pahalgam.</p>

<p>Speaking on a TV news show, Dar said that the Nur Khan air base in Rawalpindi and Shorkot air base were struck by India. It was then that Pakistan reached out for intervention to the United States and took help from Saudi Arabia. The Nur Khan is a strategic air base situated in between Rawalpindi and Islamabad.&nbsp;</p>
<p>”…unfortunately, India once again launched missile strikes at 2.30am. They attacked the Nur Khan air base and Shorkot air base… Within 45 minutes, Saudi Prince Faisal called me. He said he had then just learnt about my conversation with (US Secretary of State) Marco Rubio. He asked if he was authorised to talk to (India’s External Affairs Minister) S Jaishankar and convey that we are ready if they (India) stop. I said yes, brother, you can. He then called me back, saying he had conveyed the same to Jaishankar,” Dar said on the TV show.</p>
<p>India launched <a title=”Operation Sindoor” href=”https://news.abplive.com/topic/operation-sindoor” data-type=”interlinkingkeywords”>Operation Sindoor</a> on the intervening night of May 7 and 8 and destroyed the nine terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The attack by India came in response to the April 22 incident in Pahalgam that killed 26 tourists.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The attack escalated bilateral tensions, as it led to the counterstrikes between the two countries. India responded strongly to the actions by Pakistan. Both the countries then reached to a consensus and announced a ceasefire.</p>
