”He invited me to China and I invited him here,” said the US President while meeting German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the Oval Office.

The Chinese readout of the conversation mentioned the invitation but not the reciprocal one to the White House.

’China Keeps Its Promise’

Xi has been reported saying to Trump that China always kept its promise adding that both the nations should abide by the consensus reached by them on the recent deal in Geneva.

Both sides have blamed each other for breaching the deal aimed at significantly reducing tariffs, a deal that was touted by Trump as a “total reset”. The deal came after Trump increased tariffs on imports from a host of nations, but reserved the highest rates for China. Beijing hit back with its own higher rates on US imports, triggering a tit-for-tat rise that peaked at 145 per cent.
