Pakistan in an official statement has confirmed at least 11 of their soldiers were killed and 78 soldiers were injured in the ongoing military confrontation with India, sparked by Operation Sindoor. In a statement released on Sunday, the Pakistan military acknowledged the casualties, listing the names of the fallen soldiers from both its army and air force, reflecting the heavy toll of the recent skirmishes.

The fatalities occurred following a series of intense cross-border exchanges after India launched <a title=”Operation Sindoor” href=”https://news.abplive.com/topic/operation-sindoor” data-type=”interlinkingkeywords”>Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting nine terrorist sites in Pakistan. In retaliation, Pakistan initiated Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, branding the period from May 7 to May 10 as Marka-e-Haq, or the “Battle of Truth.”

India Claims Major Military Gains

In response, the Indian military claimed to have inflicted significant damage on Pakistan’s armed forces, including downing advanced fighter jets and striking critical military installations near Islamabad. Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, Director General of Military Operations, stated, “35-40 Pakistani military personnel were killed in the combat operations. Pakistan will have to pay a very heavy price if it resorts to any more misadventure.”

Air Chief Marshal AK Bharti reinforced that India’s fight is against terrorism, not the Pakistani military, saying, “Our fight is not against the Pakistan Military or forces but against terrorism. But as we targeted the terrorist hideouts in Pakistan, the Pakistani army retaliated.”

The exchange of fire has also taken a toll on civilians, particularly in Poonch district in the Jammu region, where Pakistani shelling damaged homes, religious sites, and a school, forcing residents to flee. Reports indicate that a temple, a gurdwara, and a school were among the structures hit, raising concerns about the safety of civilians caught in the conflict.
