Ukraine, European Allies Unite In Kyiv To Urge 30-Day Ceasefire After Putin’s Defiant Stance

<p data-pm-slice=”0 0 []”>Kyiv said on Saturday that the leaders of France, Britain, Germany and Poland agreed Saturday to call on Russia to accept a 30-day unconditional ceasefire starting Monday. According to news agency AFP, the proposal came after the four leaders, part of an alliance Britain and France call “the coalition of the willing”, met President Voloydmyr Zelensky in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.</p>
<p>Russia has not shown any signs of halting its three-year invasion of Ukraine, and rejected a similar proposal put forward by the US and Kyiv in March. Earlier, Russia warned that there could be no truce unless the West halted arms deliveries to Kyiv.</p>
<p>According to AFP, Russia presently acquires a fifth of Ukrainian territory. It includes the Crimea peninsula, which it annexed in 2014 — and intensified deadly attacks on the country this spring.</p>
<p>On Friday, the embassy of Russia in Kyiv warned that a “significant air attack” could hit Ukraine at some point within the next several days. French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Polish PM held talks with Zelensky earlier.</p>
<p>All the five leaders later held a phone call with US President Trump, Ukraine’s foreign minister Andriy Sybiga said on X.</p>
<p>”Ukraine and all allies are ready for a full unconditional ceasefire on land, air, and at sea for at least 30 days starting already on Monday,” he added.</p>
