by aweeincm

Amid the ongoing escalations, Pakistan on Saturday claimed that India launched missiles at three of its key airbases inside the country, but most of the them were intercepted. It also stated that retaliatory strikes on India were underway, Associated Press reported.

Pakistan military spokesperson Lt Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry stated in a televised address that the country’s air force assets were safe following the Indian strikes. He also claimed that some of the Indian missiles also hit eastern Punjab in India.

According to Pakistan, the air bases that were attacked include: Nur Khan (Chaklala, Rawalpindi), Murid (Chakwal) and Rafiqui (Shorkot in Jhang district). Nur Khan air base in Rawalpindi, where the Pakistan military has its headquarters, is around 10 kilometres from the capital Islamabad.

As per the AP report, the Pakistani military used medium-range Fateh missiles to target an Indian airbases and missile storage facility in Pathankot and Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir. Residents in these areas said they heard loud explosions at multiple places including in Srinagar and Jammu.

Sharif has called the strike on the country’s air bases, a “provocation of the highest order”. He also claimed that some of the Indian missiles also went into Afghanistan.

”I want to give you the shocking news that India fired six ballistic missiles from its city of Adampur,” AP quoted Sharif as saying. “One of the ballistic missiles hit Adampur, the remaining five missiles hit the Indian Punjab area of Amritsar.”

For the second night in a row, Pakistan launched a new round of drone attacks late Friday, targeting 26 locations stretching from Jammu and Kashmir all the way to Gujarat. According to the Defence Ministry, Indian forces successfully prevented the drones from causing damage to key sites, including airports and air bases.

The only reported injuries came from Punjab’s Ferozpur, where members of one family were hurt in the attack. As a precaution, all Indian states along the Pakistan border were plunged into darkness under a coordinated blackout.
