Trump Administration Announces $1,000 To Undocumented Immigrants For Leaving US Voluntarily

by aweeincm

The Trump administration has announced it will offer $1,000 to undocumented immigrants in the US who voluntarily return to their home countries, as part of its broader mass deportation strategy.

According to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security on Monday, the government will also cover travel expenses for those who opt to leave. Individuals who notify authorities of their intention to depart using the CBP Home app will be deprioritised for detention and deportation by immigration officials.

“If you are here illegally, self-deportation is the best, safest, and most cost-effective way to leave the United States to avoid arrest. DHS is now offering illegal aliens financial travel assistance and a stipend to return to their home country through the CBP Home App,” Secretary Kristi Noem said, Associated Press reported.

Immigration enforcement and the deportation of immigrants in the US were a central part of President Donald Trump’s campaign during the election. However, the process is costly and demands significant resources.

“As soon as I take the oath of office. We will begin the largest deportation operation in the history of our country,” Trump said in July, CNN reported.

While the Republican administration is urging Congress to approve major funding increases for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), it is simultaneously encouraging undocumented immigrants to leave the country voluntarily through a “self-deportation” approach, according to Associated Press.
