<p>The national carrier of Pakistan on Wednesday cancelled all flights to and from Gilgit, Skardu and other northern areas in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir due to security reasons, reports news agency PTI quoting local media reports. The recent development comes amid rising tensions with India following the Pahalgam terror attack.</p>
<p>Citing the flight schedule, Urdu daily Jang reported that the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) cancelled two flights each from Karachi and Lahore to Skardu. News agency PTI, quoting Urdu daily, said that the two flights from Islamabad to Skardu and four flights from Islamabad to Gilgit have also been cancelled.</p>
<p>For security reasons, all commercial flights scheduled to operate to and from Gilgit and Skardu on Wednesday have been cancelled, the paper reported. The paper quoting officials reported that the measures are precautionary and aimed at ensuring national airspace security during the regional tension. Pakistani authorities have also placed all airports under high alert, significantly ramping up security and surveillance protocols.</p>
<p>The terrorists opened fire in Jammu-Kashmir’s Pahalgam, killing 26 and injuring several others. It was one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in the region in recent years. All the 26 killed were men.</p>
<p>The attack took place in the meadows of Pahalgam, where people from various parts of India had gathered for vacation.</p>
