Former Pak PM Nawaz Sharif Urges PM Shehbaz To Take Diplomatic Route To Defuse Tensions with India

by aweeincm

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday briefed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif on the critical decisions taken by the National Security Committee (NSC) in the wake of India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), following a terrorist attack in the Pahalgam area of Kashmir.

According to reports, Pak PM Shehbaz, accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, met Nawaz at their family residence in Jati Umrah. During the meeting, Shehbaz outlined his government’s stance and discussed Pakistan’s readiness to respond “to any aggression with greater force.”

According to sources, Shehbaz Sharif described the Pahalgam terror incident as “yet another false flag operation by Indians to create instability in the region.” He further asserted that “India’s unilateral decision to suspend the IWT had heightened the risk of a war in the region.”

Emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to peace, Shehbaz said, “Pakistan is committed to peace but the nation’s security was non-negotiable.”

A PML-N insider revealed that Nawaz Sharif advised the government to use “all available diplomatic resources to restore peace between the two nuclear-armed states.” The former Pak PM reportedly expressed reservations about adopting an aggressive posture, instead favouring diplomatic efforts. On the Indian side the Indian army is arresting each and every person who is related to all these terrorists who killed the innocent Indian civilians. And in this operation they have turned the houses of these local terrorists into dust with blasts and also eliminated top LeT commander Altaf Lalli.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif proposed the formation of an international commission to investigate the Pahalgam incident. He suggested the inclusion of officials from the United States, Iran, China, Russia, and Britain in the probe.

”Despite knowing that it was a false flag operation, we are ready to work with any such commission to close the curtains on this drama. However, India will witness our preparedness, if it goes ahead with any misadventure,” Asif said.

The Defense Minister also highlighted the global risks posed by the current tensions, warning that friction between “two nuclear armed states posed a risk to the stability of the entire world,” and called on the international community to take immediate notice.

On the afternoon of April 22, 7-8 Pakistan sponsored terrorists opened fire on tourists in a popular travel destination in the mountainous destination of Pahalgam in Kashmir.

At least 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national were killed in the massacre, which unfolded in a valley only accessible by foot or on horseback.
