by aweeincm

A month before she was set to receive her Master’s degree, V Deepthi, a young student from Andhra Pradesh, India, passed away after sustaining critical injuries in a hit-and-run accident in Denton, Texas.

The incident occurred on April 12, when Deepthi and her friend Snigdha, both hailing from Guntur district, were walking near the 2300 block of Carril Al Lago Drive. A speeding vehicle struck the pair and fled the scene. Deepthi suffered severe head injuries and succumbed to them on April 15, despite extensive efforts to save her. Snigdha is reported to be in stable condition following surgery.

MoS Chandrasekhar’s Support For Treatment

Following the accident, Deepthi’s friends promptly reached out to her family and local authorities. Union Minister of State Pemmashani Chandrasekhar’s camp office in Guntur was informed, leading to coordinated support from his team in the U.S. and the launch of a crowdfunding campaign spearheaded by his brother, Ravishankar. The campaign garnered around $80,000 for medical expenses.

Despite all efforts, Deepthi did not survive. Her remains are scheduled to be flown back to India on Saturday with arrival in Hyderabad expected by Monday morning. Telugu associations in the U.S. have been actively assisting in the repatriation process.

Deepthi Invited Family To Attend Graduation

Deepthi was pursuing her Master’s degree at the University of North Texas and was on track to graduate this May. Her sudden demise has left her family devastated. “I spoke to her occasionally, and as she was in a hurry to attend classes, she told us she would call on Sunday when she would be free. That turned out to be the last call,” said Hanumantha Rao, her father, as per a report on PTI.

Her grieving parents had planned to attend her graduation. To support her studies abroad, the family had even sold farmland, a testament to their dedication to her academic aspirations. Deepthi was an alumna of Narasaraopet Engineering College, where she completed her B.Tech before moving to the U.S. for higher education.
